Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) now available - Semester 1, 2023/24
Posted by Jeremy-Dane Ferguson on 31 August 2023 09:54 AM

Dear Colleagues.

In our last message, we advised that we were doing an upgrade of the campus’ main Learning Management System. We know that you are eager to start preparations and we thank you for your patience and understanding thus far.

We write to inform you that you can now access the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) at https://vle.mona.uwi.edu/ (please see note below concerning ongoing courses which commenced in the past academic year). You will notice some subtle changes, in terms of the user interface as well as some of the functionalities that the platform offers. The system is still Moodle based and as such you should be comfortable functioning therein. We have attached a short document entitled “Finding Your Way Around in VLE” to help get you started.

Please note the following;

  • If the start of teaching date for your course falls before September 4, 2023 you are expected to continue accessing and delivering your courses via the previous instance of the VLE at https://ourvle.mona.uwi.edu/ . This area is still active and accessible.

  • If, however the start of teaching date for your course is September 4, 2023 and beyond you are expected to access your courses via the new instance of the VLE at https://vle.mona.uwi.edu/

As is customary, when you log on to https://vle.mona.uwi.edu/ for each of your courses you will have access to an empty container for Semester 1, 2023/24. You will also have access to the last instance of the course from Semester 1, 2022/23. If you are not seeing the latter please allow 24 hours to pass and check again, as the restoration process is ongoing. To properly check, please ensure that you log off completely and log back on. If after the 24 hours has passed and you are still not seeing your course container, please send an email to ourvlesupport@uwimona.edu.jm so that we may assist you.

You are free to build out your containers from the ground up or import content from the previous instance and modify. The upgraded VLE has a simpler method of doing this referred to as Course Reuse. The attached document titled “Reusing Course Content in VLE” provides a guide on how to utilize this process.

Please note that the usual external integration services such as Zoom and Turnitin will be made available during the course of this week.

Thank you again for your patience and understanding. Should you have any related queries please feel free to send an email to ourvlesupport@uwimona.edu.jm.
